Understanding Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation is a procedure completed under general anaesthetic to alter the shape or size of the breasts to create a more attractive appearance. Many women dislike the shape or size of their breasts, which can lead to a lack of self confidence, because breasts are considered to be a woman defining feature, which can alter how a woman perceives herself, how she is perceived by others, and how the clothes that she wears complement her figure. It is one of the most desired cosmetic surgeries and is completed by women of all ages who are looking for fuller, rounded breasts.

Breast enlargement surgery  is completed by inserting saline or silicone implants into the patient’s existing breast tissue at our Harley Street clinic, which improves the shape, size and symmetry, whilst looking for an aesthetically pleasing and natural looking breast shape. Doctor Sebastian will discuss the preferred option of implant at the consultation stage, and it is useful to know that 85% of patients prefer silicone implants for their shape and durability after surgery, which is also appealing, along with the variable sizes that breast implants come in for the patient wishing to have a fuller bust.

Natural fat transfer is another option to consider, and is particularly suitable for the patient looking for a small increase to their bust size, with the use of the patient’s own body fat which is transferred to the breasts.

Breast Implants London

There are several breast procedures performed during plastic surgery. They are as follows.

Breast Augmentation

This procedure is performed under general anaesthetic, and is designed to insert high quality implants, to give an overall fuller shape, with larger and perkier, uplifted breasts. The implant size is based on the cubic centimetres (CC’s) of saline or silicone to be used, and the volume is calculated with a consultation first and foremost to discuss the size of the breasts that are desired, and the amount of natural breast tissue to work with during the procedure.

Breast Lift - Mastopexy

This procedure is performed under general anaesthetic, by using the latest industry led techniques, which are designed to remove loose skin, and to lift naturally sagging breast tissue, which is often referred to as heading south. Sagging breasts have lost their once taut muscle tone, especially in larger breasted women, where a Mastopexy is performed in order to lift the  breasts to a similar position as if in a more youthful body.

Breast Asymmetry

Breasts come in all sizes, and it is normal to have one breast larger or smaller than the other. Breasts can become uneven in size over time, and it can become very noticeable, especially to the person who notices the difference on a daily basis and becomes self aware. This procedure can recorrect this situation by giving a more aesthetically balanced symmetry.

Is this procedure right for me ?

Breast augmentation should never be rushed into, as it is a permanent feature, and it can be overwhelming for some. Breast sizing should be completed in stages gradually over time, rather than rush from a B cup to a size F. Reconstructive surgery from breast cancer or injury are particularly emotional, as they can be life changing, and It is always advisable to discuss with your own GP if you are considering plastic surgery in any way, to make sure there is no regret later on.

After an initial consultation with the Doctor, who will also be the surgeon on the day of the procedure, the patient’s expectations will be considered, and a realistic plan of options that are available will be discussed and agreed upon. These considerations will be carried out under the expertise of the medical team, who will complete the procedure under strict health and safety regulations, under the guidance and protocol of the CQC  – Care Quality Commission.

Once the procedure has been completed, and the surgical team is happy with your immediate recovery post procedure, you will be given full instructions to continue with your aftercare at home. Plenty of rest is the order of the day for the first week, with no strenuous exercise or heavy lifting. Bruising and swelling are completely normal and will dissipate with time. Sutures will be removed in the clinic if they are not dissolvable, and a follow up appointment will be carried out with your surgeon. After recovery, look forward to the new you, because your new procedure will be truly life changing.
