It is very refreshing to be able to change your appearance with the removal of excess fatty tissue from your upper and lower eyelids.
The extra weight as we age causes the delicate tissue around the eye to droop, become wrinkled, and also fold, giving the dramatic illusion of premature aging. Our eyes are a prominent feature of our face, and as we communicate and interact with friends and family, the droop can give an unnatural look of being overtired or irritable; depending on how severe the tissue has dropped.
Dr. Sebastian Deme is a registered plastic surgeon on the specialist register, paying particular attention to the patient’s age, facial shape, and the overall aesthetic design to complement the patient’s natural contours. Each procedure performed is tailored to a patient’s needs and lifestyle, with a subtle difference that completely rejuvenates the face, whilst restoring a refreshed and youthful appearance.
Eyelid surgery, also known as Blepharoplasty, is a procedure that can correct long term tissue build up as we naturally age, although some patients will suffer more than others over time. The excess tissue not only leaves some patients looking tired and irritable, it can also cause an overhang of sagging tissue that interferes with peripheral vision.
Depending on how serious the problem develops over time, multiple procedures can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both eyelids, that not only corrects vision, but can bring about a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The upper eyelids accumulate fatty tissue which then hang down over the eye in a droop, which distorts vision and ages the face dramatically. The lower eyelids treat the area beneath the eyes which is more prone to eye bags, dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles. All these symptoms age the face prematurely and can cause low self esteem and a lack of confidence. In lower eyelid surgery a small incision is discreetly made within the lower eyelid, where sagging skin and excess fat are removed, and the muscles are tightened. Both upper and lower lids can be completed at the same time to aid faster recovery, and less convalescence.
It is normal to feel some discomfort after minor surgery, although pain can be managed with medication and meticulous aftercare. The procedure is performed using industry led techniques, to reduce the risk of scarring, complications, and to give excellent results.
Some swelling and weeping is normal, and you will receive detailed information on aftercare at home, including follow ups from Dr. Sebastian and his dedicated team in London. Any sutures will be removed in the clinic, and a follow up review with your surgeon will take place.
Dr. Sebastian is a GMC registered surgeon with the General Medical Council, and is on the specialist register for plastic surgery.
Health and safety is paramount for our patients, which is why we are CQC registered with the Care Quality Commission, to ensure outstanding health and safety practices throughout.
Eyelid surgery is performed under general or local anaesthetic, depending on preference during the procedure, which will be discussed with your surgeon beforehand, and the extent of the surgical work to be completed. It is classed as an outpatient procedure, allowing you to return home the same day.
Surgery procedures vary in length, depending on the treatment required, and the extent of the changes to be made. If both the upper eyelid and the lower eyelid are receiving treatment, then the procedure can take up to two hours of surgery. The incisions made will become a fine line after the full healing process, and Dr Sebastian will limit the overall scarring to a minor and unnoticeable procedure whilst creating refreshing and natural looking results.
After the surgery it is normal to experience some swelling and bruising, and this may last between 5 – 7 days for upper eyelid surgery and 7 – 10 days for lower eyelid surgery. After the period of healing has passed, if there are any further signs of swelling or bruising, the areas can be disguised with concealers and corrective makeup. Most patients fully recover within 10 to 14 days, and the healing process is quicker and more effective if rest is adhered to. Most swelling will dissipate in the first week, and the patient is asked to avoid any strenuous exercise or activities that may cause bleeding or swelling to continue.
Patients are anxious to recover as quickly as possible and return to work or lifestyle choices, but please remember that you have been through a medical procedure and some heal quicker than others. Recovery will be much quicker if the following advice is carried out,
