Breast Lift (Mastopexy) in London

Your breasts are with you through thick and thin, from hormonal changes, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and breastfeeding to the natural aging process. Sometimes, these life experiences result in permanent changes in your breast shape, such as sagging skin and glandular tissues.

If life has left your breasts sagging and without their youthful perk, a breast lift is an effective way to redefine your feminine figure. Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) works by lifting and reshaping the breast tissue and skin to restore youthful elevation and a firmer look and feel.

Am I a Candidate For Breast Lift Surgery ?

Many women who consider breast lift surgery are displeased by the general appearance of their breast shape and not necessarily the size. Breast lift surgery does not significantly alter the volume of the breasts. While women may feel as though their breasts look larger or smaller following their breast lift (due to their lifted, perkier appearance or tighter, more compact tissues), there is no significant change in size.

Most women interested in and candidates for breast lift surgery have noticed breast ptosis (sagging) or deflation following pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss. Candidates for breast lift surgery do not smoke, are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations of their results.

What is Discussed During My Breast Lift Consultation ?

Since your breast lift is customized to your needs, a consultation with your surgeon at New Look New Life is essential to your surgery’s success.

During this meeting, your surgeon will

How Can I Personalise My Breast Lift Surgery in London?

Dr. Sebastian Deme will skill-fully perform your surgery according to your unique needs and goals. The surgery usually takes up to two and a half hours to complete at our Harley Street surgical centre in London.

Breast lift surgery is performed by making a series of incisions on the breast and around the areola. Through these incisions, the breast tissue is tightened and the nipple-areola complex repositioned higher on the breast.

The areola’s size and shape can also be adjusted during this procedure.

Should I Combine My Breast Lift with Breast Augmentation ?

The combination of a breast lift with breast augmentation surgery is common after pregnancy or significant weight loss (and is often performed during a Mommy Makeover). A breast lift restores elevation and projection to breasts that have been augmented with implants or fat transfer. Some women discover that their new implants sag if their breast tissues are not tight. Breast lift surgery eliminates this situation.

Should I Combine My Breast Lift with Breast Reduction ?

Breast reduction surgery is almost always combined with a breast lift at our London clinic; however, a breast lift does not have to be performed with breast reduction. A combination of a lift and reduction is only necessary for women with overly large breasts that would have significantly loose skin and sagging tissues after the removal of glandular tissue and fat.

Understanding a Breast Lift - Mastopexy

Breasts come in many different sizes, and are subject to change over the years. These changes take place from the onset of puberty to post menopause, where there are many changes to breast tissue, which can have a detrimental effect on how your breasts look and feel longterm.

Gravity is not a friend of breast tissue, and large, heavy breasts tend to lose their firm structure and sag over time, especially if they are not supported fully by a firm, uplifting brassiere, as trends and fashion often dictate that the aesthetic appearance of under garments often supersedes support. Weight gain and weight loss also alter the shape of breast tissue, sometimes resulting in loose and excess skin around the armpit area and the breast itself. Yo-yo dieting can cause further breast sagging (Ptosis).

Pregnancy may also affect breast tissue, with the influx of hormones causing changes in size to the breasts, in preparation for the mother to breastfeed if she so wishes. This in itself may cause a change in size to the breasts, by being engorged or swollen. When breastfeeding stops, some women say that their once firm breasts feel empty or deflated.

Going through the Menopause brings a change of hormones in the breast which can cause them to lose their shape over time, due to the once tighter and more dense breast tissue to stretch, which can lead to lumpy, uneven breasts which may sag or droop, resulting in the breast tissue going South, so to speak.

Is Breast Lift surgery for me ?

As with any procedure, it is wise to think about it for a while, and not rush into any quick decision. Talk it through with your GP, and your consultant fully, and weigh up the advice and options given. At your consultation you will be given the opportunity to discuss your goals with a realistic outcome. Your skin condition will be evaluated, along with your general health, and surgical options will be given to you. Photos will be taken as a record of the before and after. Smokers are not considered as candidates unfortunately. A plan of the procedure and time frame will be explained to you, and you will then take the information away with you to peruse over the coming weeks.

Most patients who go ahead for a breast lift are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts and not usually the size. A breast uplift does not significantly alter the volume of the breasts during surgery, other than making the appearance more lifted and perkier in appearance. By altering the position of the breast, this can make some look smaller or even larger, just by compacting the tissue and giving the breasts a more youthful look.

For those patients that require larger breasts or a reduction in size during a breast lift, a combination procedure can be performed. Breast Augmentation (Implants) is common after pregnancy or large weight loss, as it restores elevation to the breasts with implants and fat transfer. The breast tissue needs to be tight to support the implants, which is where a breast lift works very well. A breast tissue reduction during a breast lift works very well with overly large breasts that have significant sagging tissue and loose skin, after the glandular tissue and fat have been removed.

What happens during surgery ?

You will come to our Harley Street clinic as a day case, and you will be given a general anaesthetic by your surgeon. A series of small incisions are made during surgery on the breast and around the areola. The breast tissue is then tightened through these incisions, and the nipple – areola is then repositioned higher on the breast for a more youthful appearance. The size and shape of the areola can also be adjusted at this stage if the patient wishes to decrease the areola. The overall goal of a breast lift is to tighten loose or overly stretched breast tissue, to remove excess skin, and to lift sagging breasts.

Once your surgery is complete, and your surgeon is happy for you to go home then a follow up appointment will be arranged. You will be sent home with full instructions on pain medication and to rest significantly, with no strenuous exercise of heavy lifting. Once again, this surgery is often life changing, and very beneficial to those patients who have body dysmorphia or self confidence issues. Always speak to your GP if you suffer from these conditions.
